A Path to Powerful Organic Acting

Bringing the Spirit of Michael Chekhov into the 21st Century!

Powerful Organic Acting

In 11 minutes a day, you can be a POA!

Use POA Journal Form to perform this exercise.

A Practicing Observant Artist is the first level one must achieve to enter the path of the Powerful Organic Actor. These guidelines for your Homeplay are for those who wish to master the Chekhov Technique in pursuit of being a POA!

Our goal is to train our imagination and our body to inspire each other and to cultivate the instinctive ability to compose art.

If you commit to doing this for one year, you will attain a level of mastery that will be with you for life. Yes, you may need a refresher here and there, or perhaps additional practice in a certain style that is not included in your year of dedication. However, the impact that a one-year commitment will have on your artistic nature will be interwoven into your instincts and intuition throughout your life.

When we learn new ideas, some may be very challenging to our current way of thinking and experiencing the world.

The following guidelines are developed with the intent to:

a. Convince our every day mind that these concepts indeed have value to us as artists.

b. Train our bodies and voices to reflect images .

c. Build a toolbox of resources for getting great images that we can then reflect .

d. Gain the most rapid and deepest understanding of these ideas so that we can eventually use them instinctively and unconsciously .

e. Awaken our life of continuous artistry .

Once each week, take a moment to plan the play dates with your self.

Look at the chart for inspired acting and select topics for the next 5 or 6 days.

Write it in your calendar and on your POA Journal Sheets.

For Example:

On Monday pick Expansion/Contraction,

Tuesday: Molding

Wed: Flowing/Floating

Thursday: Flying

Friday: Radiating

Saturday: Ideal Artistic Center

Sunday: Celebrate your dedication!

Practice the Physical Movements with the Images for 5 minutes each day. Use Lisa Dalton's DVD: The Rock 'n Roll Review of Michael Chekhov's Psychophysical Techniques if you would like partners to accompany your workout.

Observe for one minute 3 times during the day (once in morning, once midday and once in the evening) you or someone or something else that is doing/expressing the tool.

For example- notice how you eat breakfast in terms of contracting or expanding. Notice co-workers or servers at lunch. Notice the traffic at rush hour, the person walking across the street. Observe the plants on the side of the road, something on TV in terms of the tool you are playing with today.

Apply for one minute 3 times during the day same as the observing-consciously choose to brush your teeth contracted and end expanded, mold your breakfast or fly up to change the channel at night.

One year from the day you commit to this, you will have attained a level of mastery that will last a lifetime. This will be a springboard to the fulfillment of your Piece Of AS-pirations! Eventually, if you want it to, POA will mean Prepare Oscar Acceptance!

Where ever possible, if you can make written notes in a journal, the impression these play dates have on you will strengthen. When ever you share your observation and experience with someone in writing or spoken, you also deepen the experience.  You are welcome to email me any observations you like. When you do, please let me know if I may quote you for future publication on good news site or in books, etc.

Remember to include on your tool chart The Three Major Laws of Composition (TPT)

Triplicity - things come in threes, beginning-middle-end,

Polarity - law of opposites, duality, contrast, yin-yang

Transformation - law of change =the one sure thing in life, I Ching
