Bringing the Spirit of Michael Chekhov into the 21st Century!

“In life, and in any true piece of art, the beginning and end are, or should be, polar
in principle. In art, as in life, we begin to evaluate, to understand and experience things
differently if we see them in the light of true contrasts.”
— Michael Chekhov

Micha Chekhov’s Dream

by Harold Burnett @2008

See the imaginary stars of inspired acting,
Those eighteen points of light?
You are soon to become adept at
turning on each one.
Maybe today, maybe next week,
within the next month.

You have only to illuminate two or three
for a chain reaction to begin.
Then inspiration strikes
with greater and greater frequency,
Like lightening charges in you,
the imaginary body takes form,
feeling power from emotional centers,
Your sensations easily become feelings,
Imaginations soar within
expanding and contracting you
While adding the jewelry
to your ensemble,
your composition clear and to the point.

One gesture says it all.
The objective is yours
As the atmosphere shines
with style, beauty, and truth.

LISA DALTON'S ROCK N ROLL REVIEW----NOW AVAILABLE!
This one hour DVD is a non-stop workout covering the basic psycho-physical and imagination based exercises outlined in Mr. Chekhov's books. Pop it in and work out with the Dalton Gang under Lisa Dalton's guidance. Chapters will allow you to skip segments or repeat segments. You can choose to vary the "tools" each time. While Lisa guides you through each exercise, don't expect in depth explanation of the tools. If you are someone who has read about the technique but has yet to work directly with a coach, you will certainly find it helpful to see the work being done. Your greatest effectiveness will come from reading prior to working with this dvd. Questions can be answered via phone coaching with Lisa. Since this is designed to refresh and review knowledge already learned in the Foundation Course with Lisa and her teaching colleagues, future DVD's will offer more detailed explanations and eventually the entire foundation course.

Here is some feed back from those who have used Lisa Dalton's Rock N Roll Workout!

Hi Lisa,
It was great to have the opportunity to speak with you last week. I am writing simply to continue to gush praises for Lisa Dalton's Rock 'n Roll Review of Michael Chekhov's Exercises for Inspired Performance. The first time I followed along with the other actors in the film guided by Lisa, I realized, about five minutes in, how rusty my imagination had become, how blunted my own acting seemed to me. But one exercise flows into the next, engaging movement and my full attention and by fifteen minutes in, somewhere while performing archetypal movements; pulling, pushing, gathering, I remembered what I love about acting. After a half an hour, I felt what it was to be a connected actor gifted with an array of choices to offer a character and after finishing the entire course of exercises I felt, I had truly played the scale of what is needed to be a well tuned instrument for a play, a director, a character.

These days when the rehearsal period very rarely has the time to explore how we actors can transform into our characters, I am so happy to have this session to work on changing rhythms, qualities, radiation and finding and moving with different centers and tempos. Of course I would love to study with Lisa and a group on a regular basis, but for the time I am with the Wyoming Shakespeare Festival Company where we have recently finished a great run of MACBETH. Even though I used Chekhov's technique to create the character of Lady Macbeth and I was happy with the results, when Rock 'n Roll came and I began to practice, allowing myself to be directed by Lisa, I discovered far more joy, versatility, lightness above all clarity. I am happy to have such a great teacher to practice with on a regular basis, given the fact the DVD is recorded, she won't change, but we are changing with every exercise.
I truly hope I am able to come to Texas in 2008 to study with you, or in Maine this coming summer.
Thank you so much for making this film available to us.
All the very best,
Diane _____
