6:30 PM: Foundation Course: Train to be a gymnast of human thoughts, feelings and desires. Four months for complete course which culminates in a showcase. May be taken concurrently with Scene Study or alone. $100/mo. Starting Jan. 4, 2006.
Who would benefit from this Professional scene Study class?
Any Artist who has a compelling desire to be at the top of their game in the industry.
This MASTER SCENE STUDY is for those who have mastered that level and have an interest in polishing craft and mastering peak performance. The IN ACTION Thursday Class is for those who need to learn how to act and how to apply their acting to auditions, on-camera, commercial, comedic technique and career development.
What material will be used?
Scenes from film/tv will be prepared by the individual actors with no outside rehearsal with scene partners permitted, to reflect the actual working conditions.
Stage scenes will require outside rehearsals with scene partners, to reflect theatre productions.
Stage Scene will be select by artists, film sceen recommended by faculty.
What will the evaluation process be?
Scenes will be evaluated first by the actors and then by the Faculty. The aim is to support artists in rendering the work with their highest capability. The highest respect for the artist will be given.
What Acting Techniques will be used?
All participants are encouraged though not required to complete the LDS Foundation Course and should have a distinct working knowledge of Stanislavskys System of Analysis. One or two private lessons would serve to assure any actors who need more information here. Artists are welcome to utilize any technique that proves effective and evaluations may include many approaches to solving challenges in addition to the Chekhov Techniques. Plan to use whatever gets the job done well (which inherently means that no harm is done to yourself, your partner or your environment).
What about Scene Production Value?
Artists will be expected to provide any necessary props and wardrobe to accomplish an effective scene.
Is it On Camera? We often have a camera and monitor set up. Actors can bring in tape and request the scene be taped for their personal review. Our emphasis in class is on feedback from the immediate performance, like on e would receive from a director on a set or a live audience. Though Playback is not part of the class, Lisa is usually available for a private lesson in which playback is reviewed.
How about Attitude?
Artists will be asked to embody the Four Brothers of Art-Ease, From Beauty and Wholeness, in class, around class and in rehearsals. Respect for each other, for the faculty, the environment and the industry at large will provide the most rewarding experience. This includes professional behavior identical to what you would do if you were to report to a set for a call time, prepared to shoot or perform.
What kind of Commitment is expected of me?
As above, you are expected to be ready to open for an audience or ready to do your first take.
You are expected to help other actors set up their scenes.
Be prompt!
Hold a radiant wish for each actor to be brilliant as you watch them.
Pay on time!
Stay until the end!
Communicate if you are late or cant attend, with faculty and scene partners.
Attend Monday workout, be in the Dalton Gang so you can participate in cultural events, script readings, project development and network out support group meetings to the extent possible. By training the whole being, you will reach the performance levels that are innate to the talented artist you are.
